Does this tree make me look fat?
I’m Joe, your host. Yes, it’s true: I fathered five! Yes, I know what causes that, no, we didn’t plan that many, no, I don’t plan on ever retiring, and yes, as a matter of fact, I can recite “Finding Nemo” from beginning to end. I know less about football than I should and more about taxes than is healthy. Just another Dad trying to do my best. Thanks for stopping by.
About Fathered Five
This blog is founded on the notion that Dads need more help than they’re getting. Women are good at talking to each other, so they have a natural outlet for parenting frustrations. Even though most of us are not good at it, though, we dads need to talk, too. We have frustrations of our own. But instead of talking about them, we play poker or watch football and ignore them. I’m not sure that’s a bad thing—it’s what men are hard wired to do. But I’m tired of barking at my kids and being sullen around my lover, who’s always been cheerful and deserves better. So this blog is my small contribution to getting us talking about the experience of being Dad to creatures we love so much that it sometimes scares the hell out of us.
Fathered Five is also meant to be a source of information. If my wife and I are any indication, the women are also better at seeking out information than we men are. I like to think it’s just that they have more time, but if I ever said that, I’d get the look that says, “What are you, stupid? I don’t sleep with stupid,” and then where would I be? I’ll share the best fatherhood information I can find and hope my readers will do the same.

About Me
I’m an expert at making children, which is to say I’m not much of an expert at all, as any schmuck with the right plumbing can do it. I live in Utah, which is not my fault and have a Ph.D. in Literature and work as a technical and marketing writer—that’s partially my fault. I read and write a lot.
That’s the short version. For the long version, read all about me and my five (more coming soon).
