This tidbit from Men’s Health magazine (which doesn’t cite the source):

A new study shows that male lust is blind. After 5 minutes alone in the same room as a woman they had never met before—and in some cases did not find particularly attractive—men’s testosterone levels shot up by an average of 8 percent. [Can something that goes up by 8 percent be said to “shoot?”]

The researchers say the reaction is part of an unconscious desire to mate, and may result in visual behavior changes such as a squaring of shoulders, upright posture, and greater use of hands. It may even prompt guys to tell exaggerated stories about their career and earnings.
