Brought home The Spiderwick Chronicles last night to occupy the three youngest ones so I could veg while Her Hotness was at book club. It’s a pretty intense show for a four year old. Less so for a two year old only because she doesn’t have the attention span to stay tuned long enough to get scared.

It turns out that’s not true at all. Girl 2 and Boy 4 sat on the couch, riveted. Early in the show, when something is watching from the woods and the scary music is notching up the tension, this:

Girl 2: “I betto sit by you, Wookie. So I won’t be scawed.” She gathered up her blankie and moved from the end of the couch to the middle and planted herself next to her protector.
Boy 4: “Want to sit on my wap?”
Girl 2: “Yah.” They rearranged and straigtened their blankets just in time for the next scary scene. She on his lap, his arms wrapped around her tummy, his head stretching to see around her shoulder. And they made it through okay, equally terrified.
Conscious of his role, Boy 4 said (though on the verge of panic himself) “It’s okay, sisto. It’s just bee-tend.”

The scene ended and she soon lost interest and I put her to bed. I should bring home scary movies more often.

Spiderwick? Are you trying to get them to come into your room terrified and insisting they sleep in your bed? Does Her Hotness approve of this? Can I get her e-mail?

Maria let Cooper watch Monster House and ever since Cooper comes into the room around 2am to sleep with them. Be careful what you wish for professor. Why not Amityville Horror?

We (ages 5/7/9/9) watched Bridge to Terabithia. Everyone’s enjoying it. Suddenly the plot twists and one of the principal child characters is dead. We’re stunned. I wanted to cry (and I never get emotional watching movies). Totally did not see that one coming.

Oh, yeah. I felt totally jilted at that part. I loved that character!
