Snippets. Or, Friday Sap

Trying to work at home is sometimes a challenge. While I’m usually pretty good at slapping on the headphones and tuning out the tumult, it was harder this morning. Boy 4 was spinning his little sister in an office chair 4 feet away from where I was trying to make fine-point adjustments on a Visio document. Both of them were giggling and squealing. I asked him once to stop. No result. I could feel my shoulders tightening, my blood pressure rising. An outburst and a confiscation of the chair were coming.

Then it got quiet and I glanced up from my screen. He stood in front of her and had his head in her lap. “I yuv woo. Wo’ my best sisto.” She put her hands on his head. “I lub you, woo-ee.”

Suddenly the Visio document didn’t seem so important.

I’ve been waiting to see if anyone would comment on this - but so far no takers. FYI, I get it. And you have to stop posting stuff that makes me cry ’cause my little boy comes up and says “don’t get ’set mummy…” and that dissolves me completely.

Thanks, Mich, for getting it. It must be shocking for little kids to see daddy or mummy “get ’set,” unless it happens all the time. I’m amazed that these two, who are so much work and so much stress, can occasionally do something like this that shows them in a completely different light. Grateful and amazed.
