Wherein I Acknowledge Being a Bookish Nerd: Updated

Pete at Great Circle tagged me in a post about books. It’s a subject dear to my heart but strangely painful to talk about.

  1. How many books do you own? 337. I know this number exactly because they’re all entered on a spreadsheet containing title, author, isbn, number of pages, and the book’s location. I’ve even read a couple of them.
  2. What was the last book you read? Gilead, by Marilynne Robinson.
  3. What was the last book you purchased? Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters, by Meg Meeker.
  4. What five books are the most meaningful to you? This is impossible to answer. Whatever I’m reading at any given time would almost certainly be in the list. The list always includes, however: Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy, Ceremony by Leslie Silko, and Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson.
  5. What is your most obscure favorite book? Darkness in Saint Louis Bearheart by Gerald Vizenor. Vizenor is a Native American writer who works hard at shattering all constructions of American Indians, including the ones they build of themselves. The book is a romp through a dystopian America in which fossil fuels are gone and clowns and tricksters hold the only real power.

I now tag the following people to answer the same questions:
Bad Dad Radio (check out his interesting use of pod- and vidcasts)
The Molks, one of whom works too much in IT and is fighting a public battle with weight, and the other of whom is a stay-at-home Mum keeping up with two youngsters.
Amy L at Earnest Parenting. Two (2!) sets of twin boys!

See, Joe, this is where you challenge others (like Pete and Michelle) to offer their own responses to the same questions - start the challenge!

  3. Joe Says:

Oh, I see. I see how it is. Play by the rules or don’t play at all, eh? My way or the highway? Well, what do you expect from a Seppo?
    ;-)

Just kidding. Truth is, I forgot that little detail. I’ll add it now.

Oh crikey! The last time I opened a book was when I was in hospital having just had Lily. I’ll do my best!

  5. Pete Aldin Says:

I think the male Molk just got himself in trouble with the female Molk.

    …a little…

Holy moly! What’s a book?? Lol. Now you’re going to force me to expose a dirty little secret to the world….I never read books anymore. There’s no time. I read magazines, but that’s because you can usually read a paragraph in about 30 seconds while hiding in a locked bathroom, and then pick up where you left off the next time you visit the, ahem, office.

I think I can scrounge up some answers. Sometime.
